MORE INFO ON "EVENING"
Posted: 2006-07-29

These news are coming from MTV.com: "The Notebook" won the hearts of millions of moviegoers two years ago, but what if Allie and Noah had never given their love a chance? That provocative territory will be explored in "Evening," a soon-to-film drama starring Claire Danes. "It's a beautiful story. We start shooting it in September in Rhode Island," Toni Collette recently reported. "It's based on a Susan Minot novel and it's adapted by Michael Cunningham, who I've worked with before on 'The Hours.' He's brilliant." Collette also delved into plot details: "Vanessa Redgrave plays my mother, and she's on her deathbed and moving back and remembering her first love when she was young. Claire Danes is playing her when she was a young woman, meeting a person that she ultimately didn't spend her life with — but on her deathbed, that's the person she's thinking about." The heart-tugging flick is expected in 2007, but Collette stopped short of making too many comparisons to the Ryan Gosling/ Rachel McAdams weep fest: "I haven't seen 'The Note-book,' " she laughed. "Sorry!" ...

TONI COLLETTE ON HBO'S TSUNAMI
Posted: 2006-07-17

Article by comingsoon.net: At the press day for her latest film Little Miss Sunshine, Collette excitedly told ComingSoon.net about her next project, in which she actually gets to use her own speaking voice and accent, though she also tried out a new language she's never done before. "It's an HBO/BBC co-production, a two part mini-series called 'Tsunami' about the aftermath of the waves hitting," she told us. "It's set in Thailand, and I play an Australian woman whose been living in Thailand for 11 years. I actually speak Thai in that movie, which was a great challenge. It was really great." "That's why I have a tan. I never usually go brown," she laughed. Collette plays a Christian missionary who runs an educational program for the local kids in Thailand and a lot of the film was actually shot in Phuket and Khao Lak, which was one of the areas hit hardest by the 2004 Tsunami.

TONI COLLETTE TALKS "TSUNAMI: THE AFTERMATH"
Posted: 2006-07-14

The L.A. Daily News has posted an article on the HBO press conference for the upcoming mini-series "Tsunami": "I was very wary of it," Tim Roth admitted about taking a role in the miniseries coming in December, less than two years after 300,000 were killed in the tragedy. "But I found it not to be exploitive at all. If I lost my kid, our family, I don't know that I'd watch it. But I think it's quite honorable." Toni Collette agreed, saying, "I was slightly nervous," but she cited a survivor who said, "Maybe it's too early for the survivors, but it's not too early for the people who weren't there." Since the production shot on location in Thailand in areas devastated by the tsunami, Sophie Okonedo conceded the work was difficult. "We cried quite a lot of the time," she said. "It was very emotional because it was all around us. You didn't have to do too much acting."

REDGRAVE, COLLETTE, DANES IN FOCUS FOR "EVENING"
Posted: 2006-07-14

Looks like Toni's involvement with "Evening" is still in negotations, as Reuters has reported: Claire Danes, Vanessa Redgrave and Toni Collette are in negotiations to star in "Evening," Focus Features' screen adaptation of Susan Minot's best-selling novel of the same name. Directed by Oscar nominee Lajos Koltai, the movie centers on 65-year-old cancer patient Ann Grant Lord. While her two daughters try to come to terms with her impending death and struggle with their own issues, Lord reflects on a weekend in her youth when she met the love of her life. Redgrave is set to star as Lord, with Danes and Collette co-starring, respectively, as daughters Ann and Nina. Minot and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Cunningham ("The Hours") adapted the story for the screen.
