"THE BLACK BALLOON" INFORMATION
Posted: 2007-02-21 |
The film's distributor Icon Entertainment International has launched a first "Official
Site" for the upcoming comedy drama at http://www.iconmovies.net/blackballoon/
along with a synopsis: When Thomas (Rhys Wakefield) and his family move to a new home and
he has to start at a new school, all he wants is to fit in. When his pregnant Mother
(Toni Collette) has to take it easy, he is put in charge of his autistic older brother
Charlie (Luke Ford). Thomas with the help of his new girlfriend Jackie (Gemma Ward) faces his
biggest challenge yet. Charlie’s unusual antics take Thomas on an emotional journey
that cause his pent-up frustrations about his brother to pour out, in a story that’s
funny, shocking, and ultimately heart-warming. The Black Balloon is a coming of age
story about fitting in, discovering teenage love and accepting your family. |

AWAY FROM THE SUNSHINE
Posted: 2007-02-19 |
Here's a nice article by the Herald Sun with news on Toni's tour and the info that shooting
of "Black Balloon" has been finished for Toni already: "I think it must have been the
salmon," Collette says with a groan, slumping into a chair the day after the BAFTAs.
"It wasn't alcohol. I had a really early night but I was tossing and turning ... and
then it hit me." Sitting in a London hotel, the Little Miss Sunshine star is bravely
trying to live up to the film's tagline - "everyone pretend to be normal" - but its
clear she's crook. Wondering if it might be morning sickness, I comment most of her
recent roles have been motherly. Have they made her clucky?
"Yeah. Motherhood. I'm 34, so it's bound to be sooner than later and I'm looking
forward to it," she mumbles. So, is she pregnant? "God no," she says. She hears the
clock ticking, though. "I've never had a problem with age before. But I'm 35 this
year which is almost 40 which is almost 50," she says. The ever-busy actor wrapped up
shooting Australian drama Black Balloon with Gemma Ward last week, hours before
boarding the plane to London for the BAFTAs and to present the Brit Award for
International Breakthrough Act to Hollywood rock band Orson. The full article can be
read in the Press section or at the
Herald Sun's Website. |

TONI COLLETTE SKIPS OSCARS :-(
Posted: 2007-02-19 |
Too bad! According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Toni won't attend the Academy
Awards this year: Toni Collette returns to Sydney this week after a whirlwind awards
season overseas that has celebrated her role in Little Miss Sunshine.
Collette, who will not be attending the Academy Awards (she was invited to attend,
but missed out on a nomination this year), is returning to Australia to pursue her
passion for music. Apart from attending the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards
(actually, she didn't) and BAFTAs, Collette also managed to appear at the Brit Awards,
the UK's best-known music awards ceremony, where she was introduced as a musician
rather than actor.

The Sun-Herald's S section can reveal the actor's starring role in a new video clip
for her song Look Up, which was filmed in Sydney by Paul Goldman and Alice Bell, best
known for their work on Suburban Mayhem. The single will be released in early March,
but the clip is being circulated among some of Australia's best-known video shows,
ahead of Collette's local tour next month. It's a long way from the bright lights of
Hollywood, but instead of being immersed in Oscars events on February 25, Collette
will be rehearsing ahead of her shows. Only a few days after the Oscars are handed
out, she will be playing her first show at Parramatta's Albion Hotel on March 1,
before a gig at the Gaelic Club in Surry Hills (March 2) and one at the Revesby
Workers Club on March 3. The full article can be read
here. |

TONI ROCKS AT BRIT AWARDS
Posted: 2007-02-16 |
Article courtesy the Daily Telegraph: She's got the film awards down pat, but Toni
Collette was more rock goddess than flick chick when she hit the red carpet at the
Brit Awards in London. Embracing her new status as a muso, Collette happily waved her
hand in the air to be rock-enrolled as a presenter at the UK music industry's night
of nights. While she may have been a last minute addition to the line-up, the fit was
perfect, with the Aussie star handing out the gong Grammy Award winners Wolfmother
were nominated for. While it was US band Orson who won the award for International
Breakthrough Act, it didn't stop Collette and her hubbie Dave Galafassi from rocking
out with the big boys _ the pair ended up playing the congas with the boss of
Univeral Music UK till the wee hours of the morning. Collette, Galafassi and their
band the Finish kick off their Australian tour at the Albion Hotel in Parramatta on
March 1." Pictures from the Brit Awards can be found in the Image Library.

TONI TIPS HELEN MIRREN FOR OSCAR GLORY
Posted: 2007-02-16 |
According to Channel4, Toni Collette is tipping Bafta winner Helen Mirren to do the
double and win an Oscar for The Queen. The Muriel's Wedding actress said: "If I said
anybody else I'd probably be fooling myself. There seems to be a flood and it's well
deserved - she's amazing in the film." The star isn't nominated for an Oscar herself
but her film Little Miss Sunshine is up for a total of four awards including best
motion picture. The movie has picked up a string of awards, including a pair of
Baftas, and is tipped to do well on February 25. Releasing an album seems to be
something of a tradition for Australian actresses - with the likes Kylie Minogue,
Natalie Imbruglia and Delta Goodrem all having a go - and Toni's not one to be left
out. She said: "It came out in Australia at the end of last year. It's called
Beautiful Awkward Pictures and my band is called The Finish. My husband Dave is the
drummer!" |
