TONI COLLETTE IS PREGNANT!
Posted: 2007-07-09 |
Some awesome news courtesy the Sydney Morning Herald:
Toni Collette is pregnant with her first child. The Australian star of movies such as
Muriel's Wedding, Little Miss Sunshine and the Sixth Sense today confirmed she is
expecting a child with husband Dave Galafassi. Asked whether she was pregnant,
34-year-old Collette replied: "Yes I am. "We're very happy. We are completely over
the moon." She said it was a bit of a case of life imitating art, after playing
pregnant women in her recent films. "It is strange the last three films I've done I
have been pregnant," Collette said. "I'm just like, what is the universe trying to
tell me. "But I think everything happens when it's meant to." Collette, who married
Galafassi in January 2003, did not say what stage her pregnancy was at.
The
Sydney-born actress and singer recently said she was looking forward to motherhood
and had become aware that her body clock was ticking. On Saturday, Collette performed
with her band the Finish - with Galafassi on drums - during Sydney's Live Earth
concert, which attracted a 50,000-strong crowd as part of a round-the-globe series of
shows designed to raise awareness of climate change. Collette said it was great event
to be a part of. "That was such an amazing day,'' she said. "I was nervous leading up
to it. I was having the pounding heart and the churning stomach, and then as soon as
I got there I just calmed down. "But it's an amazing feeling to stand up there in
front of so many people, especially knowing why everyone was there.'' She said she
was now looking forward to some down time. "I've been working non-stop since April of
last year, and I just finished with Live Earth on Saturday, and I think I'm going to
take a little bit of time off,'' Collette said. |

AUSTRALIA IS READY TO ROCK

Toni Collette drives a hybrid car, catches the ferry when she can and uses green power in her home.
The renowned actress and recording artist, who also offsets the pollution generated by her plane travel by investing
in new energy initiatives, has been a conservation campaigner for the past decade. Her green cre-dentials make her the perfect performer at this Saturday's Sydney Live Earth concert.
"Live Earth is a fantastic opportunity to create awareness about climate change and what we, as individuals, can do to help," she told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.

band The Finish and will be joined by a
host of other performers including Crowded House, Wolfmother and Sneaky Sound System.
The Live Earth event, backed by former US vice-president Al Gore, aims to raise awareness about climate change "This is the issue. Nothing else will matter if this is not dealt with," Collette said.
Aussie Stadium, which will host the event say they will switch off all non-essential lighting on the night, in addition to other carbon-abating measures implemented over the past year.
Other iniatives including using rainwater captured in large underground tanks to flush toilets.
The concert will mark the homecoming of much-loved Crowded House, who will headline the star-studded event.
Frontman Neil Finn said it was appropriate the band launch their new album Time On Earth here as they farewelled the world from the Sydney Opera House forecourt more than a decade ago.
More than 44,000 tickets have been sold to the Aussie Stadium show, reflecting the findings of a survey by Moshtix that Australians music fans are going to more gigs by local artists than ever.
Our pubs and clubs were also favoured over a stadium show by an international act and 38 per cent of Australians preferred to get their music fix by going to a gig.

COLLETTE SINGS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Posted: 2007-07-04 |
Article courtesy the ITV News:
Hollywood actress Toni Collette is to help kick off the Live Earth concerts with her band Finish, which includes her husband Dave Galafassi.
The 34-year-old Australian, who was nominated for an Academy Award in 2000 for The Sixth Sense, will share the Sydney stage with Jack Johnson, Wolfmother and other artists to help raise environmental awareness.
"It's not a time to be ignorant about what is happening to the planet," Collette said.
Collette's debut vocals album, Beautiful Awkward Pictures, was released last year and contains one song, Look Up, which is about the impact of climate change.
"Look Up is also about remaining positive and not letting the knowledge of what could be very horrible get you down," she said.
After Sydney, Live Earth moves to Tokyo, Johannesburg, London, New York and other cities with performances led by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna, The Police and Smashing Pumpkins.
Collette says the work started by US Vice President turned environmental activist Al Gore demonstrates the power celebrities can wield to make positive changes to the planet.
"It can be a great pressure, but the more people know, the more they will hopefully feel they have a responsibility to the planet," Collette said.
"Certainly Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth spoke to a lot of people and if the message can get out in any shape or form that's a good thing. Music can create unity."

TONI BIDS TO KEEP GREEN IN FASHION
Posted: 2007-07-02 |
Article courtesy the Sydney Morning Herald:
Toni Collette has told Australians that going green should not be a fad, but rather an all-encompassing way of life.
Collette, who will perform as part of the line-up at the Live Earth concert in Sydney on Saturday, said she hoped the event would kick-start a major shift in awareness.
"I just hope that it's not a trendy fad or fashion for people," the 34-year-old Hollywood star said.
"It's not going to go away. It's about a change of life for us. They're small changes but, collectively, they make a big difference.
"I hope that people understand that we need to make imminent changes in our day-to-day lives.
"The government is so good at making us feel helpless. But we can all, as individuals, help make a difference simply by being aware of our choices and their consequences."
Performing with her band the Finish, Collette will join a line-up of musicians at the event that includes Crowded House, Wolfmother, Missy Higgins, Paul Kelly and Jack Johnson.
Other celebrities will take part in the full-day festival by introducing acts and making speeches about environmental issues.
The Sydney event will be held at Aussie Stadium in Moore Park and will be one of the first in a day of concerts in cities all over the world, including London, New York, Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai, Johannesburg, Tokyo and London.
